More Information On Personalized Mugs

View All Personalized Mugs

The world is full of people who drink coffee, cappuccinos or other hot beverages to wake up in the mornings. Personalized mugs can be a great way to make these mornings a little more cozy. It is also a way to bring the world closer together, for the purposes of personalized mugs are as varied as the techniques that are used to make them.

Personalized mugs can be used to commemorate an anniversary or special occasion, as a souvenir or keepsake, to personalize an office setting or to promote a personal belief. Personalized mugs can also be used by businesses to advertise. This is a particularly profitable way to market a business, as it is a relatively inexpensive thing to make and can be given out as incentives or as a thank-you to loyal customers.

Most personalized mugs are made from porcelain or ceramic, but some are made of plastic, steel, enameled metal, Pyrex, or glass. A travel mug is an insulated mug that can transport hot liquids. Usually it contains only a small opening on the top for drinking.

Personalized mugs can be decorated using any number of techniques.  Examples are: direct screening, transfer technology (including water-slide and heat-release methods), dye sublimation, and pad printing. The basic ingredient for designing personalized mugs is a ceramic or porcelain mug which has been coated with a special substance. This allows the ink to be absorbed.

The direct screening method of decorating personalized mugs involves printing the design or logo directly onto ceramic and porcelain items using ceramic inks that can be fused into the glaze and kiln-fired. This technique is useful when less detail is needed. It is the most economical method and is used for one, two and three color imprints.  Transfer technology uses porcelain or ceramic decal paper which can be directly applied to the mug, resulting in sharp, colorful imprints that can be kiln-fired for permanence. This design technique is best suited for imprints that require exact detail. The dye sublimation method of creating personalized mugs involves transferring an image onto a specially coated surface with the aid of heat and pressure. And finally, pad printing involves the use of a squeegee to drag enamel across an engraved plate. A silicone pad is pushed against the plate to pick the image up and transfer it to the mug.

Personalized mugs made from glass are becoming increasingly popular. Glass has a more distinct look that many companies feel puts their business in a good light. Personalizing glass can be done using some of the techniques used for ceramics. In addition, personalized mugs of glass can be etched with the desired design or logo. The process of glass etching is achieved when the surface of a glass mug or other object is scored or cut, to create permanent markings. Etching can be done by hand or machine.

Personalized mugs will always have a place in social and economic circles, whether they are used for advertising a business or showing off the picture of a grandchild.
